I will be adding to this post as and when I completed more Rose figures from this comprehensive range. I still have more musicians and dancers to add. Meanwhile here are the only four Amazon warriors from the Rose range. I am sure that these were modelled from Amazons depicted in Classical Greek art; vases etc. Click on images to enlarge.
I have now completed my first batch of Rose miniatures, Nubian/Kush figures in Egyptian service, usually archers. The warriors are painted wearing animal skin kilts; either monkey, lion – probably not so frequent, giraffe – often depicted, or cheetah. This type of dress is often seen on burial chamber friezes. On the wooden burial figures, the kilts are usually cloth, like the Rose native Egyptian warriors. The girl has a pannier on her back suspended from a headband, also seen on burial chamber friezes.
